30 Hour Famine
On March 17th and 18th the Fairgreen Youth Group participated in the 30 Hour Famine for 2006. Everyone took it very seriously and we were able to raise $1,379.25. As we explained in the church services, it takes only a $1.00 per day to support a child.
This provides him or her with food as well as allows them to go to a Christian school
and receive a Christian education.
The youth were all very busy during these 30 hours. Some of the events that took place during the 30 Hour Famine involved a game entitled “Tribes” in which the youth competed in two “tribes”.
They had to pick a tribal leader and fashion him/her in a tribal costume and explain what each part of the costume represented. They played games which represented some of the obstacles the children in Kenya face each day. The youth were also involved in a Bible Study lead by Pat Gibson, making the remarkably long chain we presented to the congregation during worship, making bracelets, playing basketball, doing karaoke, and serving at Good Samaritan Outreach Center.
Going hungry for thirty hours in combination with the activities throughout the Famine left a very real impression on our youth.
They have a better appreciation for the gifts our Lord has given to us all. Praise God!
